The Mysterious Drumcondra Cherry Tomato Bridge Explained

One of the things we try to explain here at Goosed is random trends. Remember that fake Halloween parade? We enjoyed explaining that one. It was kind of easy too. However, explaining why hoards of people are filing to a bridge in Drumcondra to see some sliced cherry tomatoes on a wall. Yeah, this might be tougher to explain.

What is the Cherry Tomato Bridge?

It’s not long since the Winter solstice took place with great celebration at a clear Newgrange at the end of 2024. But just a few slightly longer days into 2025 and we have a new monument to celebrate; Cherry Tomato Bridge.

This Drumcondra bridge has risen to prominence after a TikToker posted some frozen but sliced cherry tomatoes on the bridge wall.

TikToker sarahgriffski was possibly the first to document the tomatoes on a frozen bridge.

Other followed up with confirmations in the following days that the tomatoes remained on the bridge.

No closer to understanding why we’re all talking about the Cherry Tomato Bridge? Then I feel for you.

The fruits (yes, fruits) have stoked the interests of people on social media, potentially slightly starved of craic in a bit of cold weather. Sometimes we just like random things happening. And let’s face it, it doesn’t get much more random than this, does it?

What is the Meaning Behind Cherry Tomato Bridge?

There are some massive questions here. Of course, where did the tomatoes come from is the biggest of all. It’s easy to say they fell out of someone’s bag, but some of them sliced. I don’t think I’ve ever seen sliced tomatoes in a shop.

Others have suggested this is a animal-loving local ensuring that during the cold snap, animals have something to eat. But this leads to a new question.

Why are the tomatoes surviving on the bridge for so long? If nothing else, shouldn’t the seagulls be taking them? Or have we just absolutely trained the seagulls to eat the burgers straight from tourists hands now?

Where is Dublin’s Cherry Tomato Bridge?

If you’re familiar with trips to Croke Park and days at Quinn’s, you’ll know where Cherry Tomato Bridge is. It’s located at 4 Richmond Rd, Drumcondra, Dublin 3, D03 FX52. It’s accessible and being visited regularly by people on TikTok, giving that “Binley Mega Chippy” energy.

The bridge has of course been updated on Google Maps and has many reviews which, I have no doubt, are being manufactured to disappoint unsuspecting tourists.

Martin, no relation, says “It was beautiful to revisit the cherry tomato bridge where I proposed to my wife in 2005. Queue was short enough today” while Sophie describes it as “such an amazing site in Dublin. All the history surrounding it makes it a place you can’t miss”.
