I’ve already made the case for a home office dock twice with the TB5 and DL7400 hubs. But, arguably, the best use case for charging docks and device hubs isn’t the monitor-driven home office. It’s beside your bed.
I’ve been testing the Anker 250w 6-port charger and found it to be a fantastic bedside problem solver. Even if my use cases are a little niche.
What is the Anker 250w 6 port charger?
The Anker 250W Prime is a high-output desktop charger aimed at people who need to power multiple devices simultaneously without juggling adapters. At 250 watts total output, it sits at the upper end of what consumer chargers currently offer, and it manages to package that into a relatively compact form factor.

The build has a few thoughtful touches worth mentioning. The power cord is removable rather than hardwired in, using a standard Figure 8/C8 connector, so you can swap it out for a regional or right-angled alternative without binning the whole unit if you ever move.
There’s a physical knob and push button on the body itself for navigating settings directly on the device, which pairs with a real-time wattage display that shows live output per port. That on-device display is genuinely useful if you want a quick read of what’s drawing what without reaching for your phone.
On the port side, you can configure a single priority port to run at 140W, which will hold that allocation regardless of what else is connected. Alternatively, you can run two USB-C ports at 100W each. USB-A is also present and supports Quick Charge, including 12V output, which remains useful for certain older devices. PPS mode is available on USB-C, running up to 5A at up to 16V.
Power distribution is adjustable through the device menu or the companion app, which is available on iOS and Android. The app requires account registration and an active internet connection for full functionality, but it mirrors the on-device display and adds per-port control alongside time-based usage tracking. Pairing uses Bluetooth, with Wi-Fi available for persistent connectivity and remote access.

One additional feature I like is the screensavers. I myself opted for the flip-clock.
Why I love this charger
So feel free to judge me, but I do a lot of things in bed – get your mind out of the gutter please. I am writing this article from bed on my MacBook and my battery was dead. My Mac is being charged by this very dock as we speak. In the background, is my projector powered by Google TV. That Google TV is plugged into the dock. I have my phone on a MagSafe stand, also plugged into the dock.
When I’m finished writing, I might swap over to gaming on my Switch 2 which will also be charged by the dock.
Usually when you have a charger, it disappears. You’re running out the door for a weekend away and you grab it. When you come back your bag is downstairs and who knows when that charger comes back to the socket it used to be in.
Having a dock means everything stays put (though cables are fair game). I’ve found the docks massively reduces my need to additional sockets and reduces the amount of times I curse someone for nicking my charger. Now, am I an edge case with a shocking amount of gadgets; yes. But I’d argue most people are trying to charge a phone or two and a watch while also sometimes checking a laptop in bed, even if you don’t want to admit it.
How it handles everyday mixed loads
So, on charging multiple devices, in practice, the 250W Prime seems to handle the typical mix of devices without fuss. It can drop output as low as 0.5W when something tiny is connected, so plugging in earbuds or a PS5 controller alongside a laptop isn’t going to cause problems. The “15W minimum per port” figure that appears in Custom mode settings refers to reserved capacity rather than power forced into a device, so small gadgets only ever draw what they actually need.
Where it earns its keep is as a shared hub. One charger, one location, everything from phones and earbuds to multiple laptops running off long USB-C cables from a single brick tucked out of sight. Even better is the two older-style USB-A ports on the side.
I have read that some older or very cheap accessories that don’t support USB Power Delivery can struggle here. If a device doesn’t negotiate PD, the charger may not recognise it at all, and you’d be better served by a basic 5W adapter for those. Mainstream kit, phones, laptops, controllers, earbuds, all behaves as expected and are recommended for use anyway both for performance and safety. But honestly, I haven’t experienced this issue at all – even when charging my smart helmet – yes, my life is ridiculous.
The Goosed Verdict
The Anker 250W Prime is the kind of purchase that quietly solves a problem you’ve probably stopped noticing. One socket, one brick, everything charged. For anyone running multiple devices from a single spot, whether that’s a desk, a living room, or a bedside table, it removes a surprising amount of low-level friction from daily life.
At around €179, it’s not an impulse buy, but for what it replaces, it earns its place. The Anker 250W Prime is available now.
