Ikea has released a free companion mod for Skyrim that turns its Kallax shelving unit into a fully voiced ally with unlimited carrying capacity. It’s called Kallax Storageborn, and it went live today through Bethesda’s in-game Creations menu.
The mod is free on PC and Xbox now, with a PlayStation release still to follow. Once installed, over-encumbered players are sent to a workshop to build their own Kallax, who can then be summoned anywhere with a new Dragon Shout, “Aye Key Yah.” He carries unlimited loot, scoops up items automatically as you explore, and tidies your house when you get home.
Actually, I get it.
The whole thing is voiced by Matt Berry, who brings the kind of booming theatrics you’d expect to a talking flat-pack shelf. Ikea worked with modding studio Kinggath Creations on the build, and it goes well beyond a simple reskin. There’s a two-dungeon questline, an Allen key sword and dagger, a meatball helmet, and a summonable meatball companion item, which is presumably where the brainstorm ended up.
Why a furniture retailer decided Skyrim’s inventory management needed solving isn’t obvious, but the execution is hard to fault. It’s also, not so subtly, a plug for the real Kallax unit, which Ikea is still happy to remind you comes in a range of sizes in store and online.
Kallax Storageborn is free through Bethesda’s Creations menu now for PC and Xbox, with no confirmed date yet for PlayStation.
