Taboo fans are more than excited about the next season of the gritty period drama starring Tom Hardy, Oona Chaplin, Jonathan Pryce and Mark Gatiss. The eight-part series aired in January on BBC One in the UK and FX in the US. The series is co-written by Hardy, his dad and Stephen Knight. Taboo production cost millions of pounds per episode, but it was worth it. It has received excellent reviews across the board.
Fact or fiction: Who is James Delaney?
Over eight episodes, we watched a tense drama, set in 1814. The drama stars Tom Hardy as James Delaney. He is an explorer who is getting involved in murder, betrayal and dark conspiracies. Despite some doubts amongst fans, Delaney is completely fictional.
Tom Hardy mentioned that he wanted his character to be a blend of different classical characters. Hardy “wanted James Delaney to be like a classical hero, a man of action, but someone who also has a depth of depravity to him and this great ability to say ‘fuck off’.”
Series two will be bigger and better
Writer Steven Knight said “Delaney will continue to explore many realities as he takes his band of misfits to a new world”. Piers Wenger, head of drama at the BBC, mentions that season two promises something “daring and different”.
Knight believes “explosive stuff is going to happen, which would be great, should it happen. There’s a great destination for it, but I don’t know if we’re in a position to talk about the actual details of it”.
Hardy “is grateful and excited to continue [his] relationship with the BBC and FX in contributing to British drama.”
When is Taboo Season 2 out?
It’s not yet known when Hardy will be returning as James Delaney. We hope we see him as soon as possible back on screen. Till then we can see him as Alfie Solomons in the fourth series of Peaky Blinders.
